Litigation resolution for Cognex Corp. of Natick Cognex Corp. of Natick and a Washington state firm have reached a settlement of all outstanding litigation between the parties, the companies an- nounced. In a joint statement, Cognex and Microscan Systems of Renton, Wash., said the settlement includes a patent cross-license agreement under which both will continue to produce current models of their handheld bar- code readers. Cognex and Microscan compete in the market over direct part mark (DPM) handheld barcode readers, which can read challenging barcodes marked directly on parts. The products use sophisticated lighting techniques to enable decoding, the patents for which are addressed by the settlement, the statement said. Cancer awareness nonprofit joins forces with bus line Westborough-based nonprofit 15- 40 Connection is partnering with Peter Pan Bus Lines in its efforts to promote early cancer detection. A "wrapped" bus posing the question "Would you recognize a cancer symptom?" will be used on bus routes across the Northeast, 15-40 Connection said in a statement. The outside of the bus features photos and stories of young adult cancer survivors, and is designed to encourage New England commut- ers to recognize cancer symptoms and detect the disease earlier. Illinois company buys third MetroWest hotel A Chicago-based hotel manage- ment and investment firm has bought its third MetroWest hotel, buying the 223-bed Double Tree by Hilton in Westborough, next to the junction of Routes 9 and 495. Ultima Hospitality announced the acquisition, which gives the company three of the largest hotels in Central Massachusetts. It already owns the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center and Courtyard by Marriott, in Marlborough. Combined, the three hotels have 800 guest rooms. Formerly a regional director for the Massachusetts Office of Business Development under the Patrick Administration, Biocchi has accepted the position of senior direc - tor of business development at Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester. Biocchi was scheduled to leave the chamber in mid-August. A search for her successor is underway.
