The Maine Department of Marine Resources in West Boothbay Harbor re- ceived a $264,516 grant funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to support the Maine - New Hampshire Inshore Trawl Survey. The survey gathers data on the ground- fi sh and lobster populations in near shore waters in the Gulf of Maine, from the Massachusetts coast to the Canadian border. Chick-fi l-A to open fi rst Maine location National restaurant chain Chick- fi l-A plans to open its fi rst location in Maine next year. e Bangor Daily News reported that the Georgia- based company has submitted plans for a 4,974-square-foot restaurant on Bangor Mall property at 663 Stillwater Ave. e proposed restaurant is expected to open by the end of 2016. "Bangor, Maine, is a great community that we are excited to become a mem- ber of," Brenda Morrow, Northeast regional manager for Chick-fi l-A, told the newspaper. "We very much look forward to serving the communities in Bangor, with an active commitment to supporting local schools and charities." Downtown Millinocket group shuts down A group aimed at boosting Millinocket's downtown has folded. e Bangor Daily News reported that the Millinocket Downtown Revitalization Committee is ending its eff orts because there was a lack of participation. e group's proj- ects include restoring the downtown gazebo, designing and hanging banners downtown, putting up a welcome sign and launching a welcome center that is open on weekends. e newspaper said other groups like Our Katahdin and ere Ain't No 'Mill' In Ocket are likely to take up the folded group's work. The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Maine in Orono $201,515 in grant funding to support the study of climate change and its effect on birds' migratory patterns and food sources. The university also received a $337,100 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to support infl uenza research. Husson University in Bangor received a grant of $142,300 from the Davis Educational Foundation to support its School of Science and Humanities Re-envisioning General Education project. The school also announced it received a $20,000 grant from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation Pharmacy Partners Program to support a project designed to improve the outcomes of patients receiving cardiac stents. Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor received a $50,000 grant from Doree Taylor Charitable Foundation, Bank of America NA, Trustee to fund general operations of its Hope House Health and Living Center. Books-A-Million in Bangor, in partner- ship with Literacy Volunteers of Bangor, collected $16,564 worth of book donations to rank sixth in the U.S. for amount raised in similar book drives.
