The grant from The Kern Family Foundation, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that invests in engineering education, will support the development of new pro- grams aimed at enhancing the team- work- and project-based curriculum known as the WPI Plan, the school said on its website. NATICK — Cognex Corp. and a Washington state firm have reached a settlement of all outstanding litigation between the parties, the companies announced. In a joint statement, Cognex and Microscan Systems of Renton, Wash., said the settlement includes a patent cross-license agree- ment under which both will continue to produce current models of their handheld barcode readers. Cognex and Microscan compete in the market over direct part mark (DPM) hand- held barcode readers, which can read challenging barcodes marked directly on parts. In other news, Cognex com- pleted the sale of its Surface Inspection Systems Division to AMETEK Inc., for $160 million in cash. AMETEX, based in Berwyn, Pa., makes elec- tronic instruments and electrome- chanical devices. WORCESTER — Two CareWell Urgent Care centers in Worcester, affiliated with UMass Memorial Health Care, have opened, joining a growing sector of the health care industry in Central Massachusetts. Last month, CareWell, based in Quincy, and UMass Memorial announced their affiliation for three urgent care centers. A third is expect- ed to open in Northborough in October. Additional affiliated sites throughout Central Massachusetts will open over the next 12 to 18 months, both organizations said last month. The Worcester sites are at 500 Lincoln St. and 348 Greenwood St. CareWell clinics will be able to refer patients to UMass Memorial special- ists and primary care physicians when necessary, a statement from the com- pany read. LITTLETON — Equestrian products retailer Dover Saddlery has merged with a company formed by Webster Capital, a private equity firm in Waltham. The merger brings the Littleton company private. Dover Saddlery shareholders will receive $8.50 per share in cash, and all in-the- money stock options and warrants will be cashed out, the company said in announcing the merger. Stephen L. Day, CEO and president of Dover Saddlery, said Webster's consumer experience will help Dover grow its retail store base and pursue other expansion plans. Webster Capital, founded in 2003, focuses on compa- nies with transaction values in the range of $30 to $200 million. The company also owns the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center and the Courtyard by Marriott, in Marlborough. division of defense contractor Curtiss- Wright Corp. has been sold to a Minneapolis manufacturer, the two companies announced. Curtiss- Wright, based in Charlotte, N.C., said it sold its Engineered Packaging busi- ness, formerly known as Hybricon, to Atrenne Integrated Solutions, an affil- iate of RFE Investment Partners. Atrenne has manufacturing opera- tions in the U.S. and China. There are 48 employees in Littleton, according to a spokeswoman for Atrenne. Founded in 1978, Engineered Packaging was sold to Curtiss-Wright in 2010. The division makes packag- ing materials for the military and aerospace industries that are designed to withstand heat and other elements. WORCESTER —The state's Health Policy Commission has signed off on UMass Memorial Medical Center's plan to buy a minority stake in Quest Diagnostics' Massachusetts subsid- iary.
