Nova Star sees boost in June ridership Nova Star Cruises said June ridership increased by 26%, to 8,530 passengers, from the same month last year. If that trend continues, the Portland-Nova Scotia ferry service said, it will exceed 2015 ridership goals. e Bangor Daily News reported that June's numbers bring Nova Star to roughly 10% of its total ridership goal for the year, meaning that it will have to attract about 70,000 passengers through July and August to reach expectations. Nova Scotia said it will continue to subsidize Nova Star if the ferry ser- vice performs well this season. Sprague proposes Portland boatyard expansion Phineas Sprague Jr., the owner of Portland Yacht Services, is proposing to expand his boatyard on Portland's waterfront. e Portland Press Herald reported that the proposal calls for a new 30,250-square-foot steel building on Commercial Street. e building would contain offi ces for the boat- yard, a parts room and retail space for selling marine-related products.
