Gould Associates have been working on the Business BUY/SELL Exchange. In some ways it is a new venture, but it is also familiar territory. The WBJ has been providing business owners and senior executives with vital information on business ownership topics and operational issues for many years. At the same time, Neil Gould has been a business buy/sell coach/adviser to business owners and entrepreneurs since 1985. This collaboration has resulted in the creation of the Business Buy/Sell EXCHANGE website, monthly e-newsletter, and now our first annual Directory and Resource Guide. In addition, there are a series of guides and handbooks available through our website that go in depth into the many steps and variables on the buying and selling sides of the equation. Those publications are profiled on a page in this directory. This special publication is focused not only on providing a forum for helpful articles and advice from professional service providers, but also to give business owners an idea of which firms/ professionals might be a good fit for them as they pursue a transition of their enterprise – in the near or long term. Our third phase of rolling out the EXCHANGE will occur in September when we produce our first seminar: What Is Your Business Really Worth? That will be the first in a series of periodic seminars and workshops to provide further education on the process of buying or selling a privately held enterprise. The future of the EXCHANGE depends on how well our content meets the needs of our readers, and how active the business and entrepreneurial community become in this effort. We encourage your feedback and welcome any recommendation that could improve the EXCHANGE and help it fulfill its objectives. Too many studies show that most business owners are unprepared to transition their enterprise – whether that is to employees, to family, or to an outside organization. We believe that providing expert advice to our region's business community about this critical process can only help our readers be more successful. Let us know what you think. n How many times will you buy or sell a company? F or most businesspeople, the answer is once – when they entered the business. Over a year ago we began collaborating on how to build a valuable informational venue that would provide the region's business community insight and expert advice on the process of buying or selling a privately held enterprise.
