Portland Science Center to open soon e local company behind the soon-to- open Portland Science Center is calling it the fi rst and only exhibition center of its kind in Maine. Portland Exhibits LLC said that the center is expected to open in late June or early July in a 15,000-plus-square-foot exhibition space at 68 Commercial St. Portland Exhibits is a subsidiary of e Gold Group, a Salem, Mass.-based entertainment mar- keting, public relations and promotional marketing agency that lists Marvel, the National Geographic Museum and Radio City Music Hall among many other clients on its website. Joe Gold, principal for e Gold Group, said the center aims to "be the fi rst and foremost venue to showcase the world's most important and extraordinary exhibitions for the fi rst time ever to the state of Maine and northern New England." Vacationland Distributors LLC, a craft beer and wine distributor in Portland, announced a partnership with Sap House Meadery in Ossippee, N.H. Maine Cancer Foundation in Falmouth announced that it has made the pledge to help increase colorectal cancer screening rates by supporting the 80% by 2018 initiative, led by the American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. Pharmacy proposes new site at MaineGeneral Kennebec Pharmacy and Home Care is proposing a new location with a drive-thru service at MaineGeneral Medical Center's Augusta campus. e Kennebec Journal reported that the pharmacy's proposed 5,582-square-foot, two-story building would be located between MaineGeneral's hospital and cancer center. Kennebec Pharmacy and Home Care currently operates a sepa- rate retail pharmacy and compounding laboratory in Augusta. Auburn manufacturer CEO steps down e president and CEO of KICTeam Inc. has stepped down, eff ective imme- diately, the Auburn manufacturer's board of directors announced in a recent email. e board said in the message, dated May 26, that Peter Klein has resigned after 12 years "to pursue other interests." Klein will retain a fi nancial stake in the company, the board added. e board has named Ian McCormick, a strategic consultant with a sales and marketing background, as interim CEO. KICTeam manufactures cleaning cards for industrial equipment with more than $10 million in annual revenue. Verso challenges Jay's tax abatement denial Verso Corp. isn't done fi ghting for a lower assessment of its paper mill in Jay. e company is now appealing the town's decision to deny its requested tax abatement. e Sun Journal reported that Verso is seeking to reduce the mill's assessed value from $593.78 mil- lion to about $400 million, arguing that the property is overvalued. e mill's assessed value had been previously low- ered by the town from $815.4 million.
