B I Z 7 J U N E 1 , 2 0 1 5 Allstate Insurance plans Maine expansion Allstate Insurance Co. is planning to add 21 new positions in Maine, citing the state's "strong economy" as the reason for the expansion. e Illinois- based company announced on May 20 that it is recruiting four agency owners and 17 licensed sales staff in Maine as part of a New England expansion plan, which will grow the company's agency presence by 28% in the state. For agency owners, Allstate said it's looking for mid-career, mid-level man- agers "who want to own and operate their own business." Candidates need $50,000 minimum in liquid capital, which will go towards launching and operating the agency, the company said. Each agency typically opens with a minimum of two employees, it added. Maine Med tops 'Common Care' rankings Maine Medical Center in Portland is among 34 hospitals nationwide to receive the highest ranking across fi ve categories in a new list from U.S. News & World Report. e hospital announced May 20 that it was rated as "high performing" for heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure treatment and knee replacement in the publication's Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings. Maine Medical said it was the only hospital in Maine and northern New England to receive the distinction for all fi ve cat- egories.
