Thirty-nine years later, ophthalmologist Richard Goduti, M.D., joined the practice, which he later took over when Dr. Beech retired. Frank W. Read, M.D., partnered with Dr. Goduti in 1971 when the company was known as Ophthalmology Associates, until its name was changed in the early 1990s to Maine Eye Center. With Dr. Read's leadership, the practice has grown steadily over the past 41 years. By adding new doctors, new locations, and using advanced technology, Maine Eye Center continues to grow and provide expert care to the people of Maine and New Hampshire. Today Maine Eye Center has grown to 10 ophthal- mologists and four optometrists practicing at two Maine locations — the Lowell Street campus and the Stroudwater Crossing campus in Portland. Maine Eye Center is the most comprehensive eye care private practice in Northern New England. Spe- cialties include cataract and anterior segment surgery, retinal and vitreous diseases and surgery, ophthalmic plastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery, corneal and ex- ternal diseases and surgery, iLASIK™ and refractive surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus, glaucoma management and surgery, and routine op- tometric eye care and contact lenses. In addition, Maine Eye Center is partnered with Maine Medical Center to exclusively provide all of its ophthalmic emergency services. In January 1987, Maine Eye Center became the first medical practice in the state of Maine to have a Medi- care Certified Ambulatory Surgical Center. Since that time, Maine Eye Center has performed tens of thou- sands of surgical procedures at its facility, which al- lows patients to undergo outpatient surgery without going into the hospital. Dr. Libby is the head physician of LaserVision, a di- vision of Maine Eye Center, which offers state-of-the- art refractive surgery. By using the Advanced Custom- Vue™ process and the IntraLase™ bladeless method, MEC is able to customize the iLASIK™ procedure for each patient. At MEC's Stroudwater Crossing location, Dr. Kahn serves as the head of the Eyelid Surgery Center. Dr. Kahn performs endoscopic and direct browlifts, blepharoplasty, lacrimal and orbital surgery. As the lead physician of Maine Eye Center's Pe- diatric Center, Dr. Berman provides diagnostic con- sultations and medical and surgical management of children's eye disorders, as well as adolescent eye disorders. The pediatric eye care staff offers care for children's common eye problems as well as compre- hensive evaluations.
