Camden National Corp. reported net income for the fi rst quarter of 2015 of $5.6 million and diluted earnings a share of 75 cents. The bank reported core operating earnings and core diluted earnings per share for the fi rst quarter of 2015 of $6.3 million and 84 cents a share, respectively, repre- senting an increase of 12% and 10 cents a share over the fi rst quarter of 2014. The bank's core return on aver- age shareholders' equity and average assets for the fi rst quarter of 2015 was 10.25% and 0.91%, respectively. Maine Media Workshops + College in Rockport received a matching gift from HomeFed Corp. and now owns an additional 14 acres of land adjacent to its current campus. The donation portion of the property transfer to the college is valued at over $1 million. Cate Street appeals $9M order over gas contract Cate Street Capital, the former owner of the now-closed Great Northern Paper mill, is seeking to overturn an arbitrator's order to pay $9 million to a Boston-based company that had been contracted to deliver natural gas to the East Millinocket mill. e Portland Press Herald reported that the order was made Feb. 4 in favor of Xpress Natural Gas, which fi led a claim for the money a few months after the mill closed last year, saying that Cate Street did not fulfi ll its contract. Cate Street fi led an appeal of the arbitrator's decision in Cumberland County Superior Court on April 13. e fi ling was recently made public. Before the mill's closing, Xpress Natural Gas had reached an agreement to provide gas to the mill from its Baileyville facility. e com- pany claimed that it paid $4.5 million to buy equipment needed to fulfi ll the agreement, and that it had also pro- vided Cate Street with a $1.4 million loan to help with the mill's natural gas conversion. e money awarded to Xpress Natural Gas includes legal fees and the loan's interest. Dunkin' Donuts franchisee plans $3M expansion e owner of Dunkin' Donuts stores in the Brewer area is planning a $3 million commercial kitchen that will add capacity for franchise expansion throughout the region. e Bangor Daily News reported that Bangor CPL LLC, which supplies doughnuts to nearly 40 stories in central and eastern Maine, is planning to build the facility in Hermon, replacing an older one in Bangor. Bruce MacDonald of Bangor CPL told the newspaper that the larger commercial kitchen's capacity will allow up to 100 new Dunkin' Donuts stores over the next few years. e kitchen is expected to o pen by year's end. Bangor denies tax break for Hollywood Casino Hollywood Casino in Bangor has been denied its request for a tax break, though the gambling operation will now have a chance to appeal. e Bangor Daily News reported that Bangor City Assessor Phil Drew denied the casino's request to reduce its property tax assessment by $36.8 million. In his response to Hollywood Casino's request, Drew said it failed to prove that his assessment was "manifestly wrong." Hollywood Casino's 2014 property tax assessment was $91.18 million, but the gambling operation is arguing that it should be $61.38 million. It will now have 60 days to appeal the city's decision. If ulti- mately approved, the casino would be refunded $876,840. The U.S. Department of Transportation granted $300,000 in federal fund- ing for the Dexter Regional Airport in Dexter. The funding will be used to rehabilitate the runway pavement.
