The Wood Island Life Saving Station Association in Kittery received $200,000 to re- pair and preserve the Wood Island Life Saving Station. The Penobscot Maritime Museum in Searsport re- ceived $40,784 to assist in digitizing, rehousing and cataloging the National Fisherman Collection and in publish- ing the images and associated data to the museum's online collections database. The funding comes from National Maritime Heritage grants. The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation in Wellesley, Mass., an- nounced nine Maine organizations shared $39,926 in 2015 Community Garden Grants. Nine organizations in Maine received nearly $900,000 in federal fund- ing through the National Endowment for the Arts to support a range of creative projects. Recipients included Maine Arts Commission, Augusta, $723,300; William A. Farnsworth Library & Art Museum Inc., Rockland, $40,000; Portland Ovations, Portland, $30,000; University of Maine, Orono, $25,000; Cultural Resources Inc., Rockport, $21,000; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Deer Isle, $20,000; Portland Opera Repertory Theatre, Portland, $15,000; and Maine Fiberarts, Topsham, and Telling Room, Portland, $10,000 apiece. Aviation company plans $4.3M expansion at jetport Portland aviation company MAC Air Group is planning a $4.35 million expansion at the Portland International Jetport. e Forecaster reported that the Portland City Council has already approved the expansion, which will include a 13,000-square-foot office and a 29,000-square-foot hangar. MAC Air Group President Allyn Caruso told the newspaper that the expansion will allow the company to create up to 15 jobs. In addition, it will also let the company consolidate its operations in Portsmouth, N.H., and Burlington, Vt., and allow it to service larger aircraft. Work begins on new Scarborough shopping center Waterstone Retail has begun con- struction on an 115,000-square-foot shopping center in Scarborough that is luring three retail tenants away from South Portland. e Needham, Mass.-based developer said it broke ground at Scarborough Gallery with local officials in early May. e project is scheduled to be completed this fall. e shopping center will include Bob's Discount Furniture, Marshalls and HomeGoods, three large retail tenants that are moving from their current location a few miles away at e Shops at Clark's Pond in South Portland. Other tenants include PetSmart and several other specialty retailers and restaurants. Lois' Natural Marketplace opens Portland store e owners of Scarborough-based Lois' Natural Marketplace are opening a store on at 47 India St. in Portland. A May 19 opening is planned. e Forecaster reported that owners Lois and Dan Porta, who opened the Scarborough store more than 20 years ago, said they are opening the second location because they wanted to have a stake in the Munjoy Hill neigh- borhood. ey said they don't consider nearby natural markets like Rosemont Market and Bakery and the Portland Food Co-op as competitors, saying they each have their own mission and that they are all here "to support farmers and the community."
