4 Business Profiles 2015 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com D o you feel it? There's a buzz in and around Worcester now that the spring rains have melted the record-breaking snowfall and the deep freeze has thawed. But more important, the hum signifies growth in the local economy. An increase in jobs, uptick in housing starts, rise in new businesses, influx of grant money for medical research, surging educational endowments, as well as a boom in commercial development represents confidence in the financial strength of the region and recognizes potential for further growth. This year's Business Profiles issue spotlights a cross-section of businesses that are an important part of that growth. In this issue you'll read about a number of academic institutions preparing students to enter the workforce, ready to pursue successful career paths. The issue also features some of the region's financial institutions and advisors that help everyone from the newly employed to the recently retired save and manage their money; hospitality venues, which provide first-class accommodations, dining and activities for locals and visitors; service companies keeping our businesses clean and efficient with the latest technology and the power of the sun; and some of the area's insurance carriers delivering programs to optimize good health. New to the Business Profiles this year is a family-owned micro welding business that blends traditional techniques with high-tech advances in the field. Another first-timer is an entrepreneur with significant experience in the international trade market who utilizes his skills and expertise to help other companies establish and expand their global footprint. As the City of Worcester and surrounding towns continue to welcome new businesses and support long-standing companies, the Worcester Business Journal salutes their passion, commitment and energy. From small, independently owned shops and large corporations to newcomers and companies founded decades ago, these businesses are fueling the economic engine in Central Massachusetts. n Phyllis Hanlon Project Editor, Business Profiles Editor, Rick Saia, rsaia@wbjournal.com Web Editor/Columnist Christina H.
