28 Business Profiles 2015 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com N ew England Business Media is the par- ent company of the Worcester Business Journal, and has been pro- ducing award-winning publications, web sites and events since 1990. A diversified publishing operation, NEBM's group of regional business publications also includes Mainebiz, a statewide business publication with operations out of Portland, Maine, and the Hartford Business Journal, which covers central Connecticut. In 2007, WBJ publisher Peter Stanton and Hartford Business Journal publisher Joseph Zwiebel purchased the business publication division of Worcester Publishing Ltd., which included Worcester Business Journal, Mainebiz and the Hartford Business Journal. Since that time, the company has launched a custom publishing division, a regional publication in the MetroWest area – Metrowest495BIZ – a video production division, as well as a weekly e-newsletter and Central Massachusetts HEALTH, a quarterly print publication, both recent launches to cover the region's health care industry. In addition, the company has continued to expand its elec- tronic offerings, more than tripling the number of sub- scribers to the daily business news emails, and hosting dynamic websites in each market. While the company's digital offerings continue to be an area of significant growth, the events side of the business has also achieved significant growth. NEBM owns and operates the pre- miere B2B shows in Connecticut and Maine, and each business publication produces between 10 and 14 events a year, such as 40 Under Forty, the Mass Energy Summit, and other popular events such as our Family Business Awards, Outstanding Women in Business luncheon and an annual Health Care Forum. First published in 1990 as the successor to the former Business Worcester, the biweekly Worcester Business Journal is known for its brand of strong, independent journalism and superb design that have garnered the publication national recognition. Not surprisingly, the last decade has seen the business evolve from a print periodical into a true multimedia operation, as WBJ has doubled down as the leader in business news, informa- tion and analysis on the Central Massachusetts region. When businesses large and small want to speak to the area's business owners and top executives, they invari- ably turn to the Worcester Business Journal and its multi-platform media mix to get out their message. The Custom Publishing Division produces com- memorative anniversary publications, show guides and directories, annual newsletters and promotional publica- tions. Supporting these special publications with a mix of advertising from vendors and supporters reduces direct costs and brings a custom publication within the range of many corporate and small-business budgets. In 2012, the company expanded its services to include custom video production, and WBJ's video production department produces first-class video both for the pub- lication as well as a growing number of clients. The hardcover book division has produced special short-run, commemorative volumes for businesses and trade organizations, as well as hardcover photo books for Central Massachusetts, Greater Hartford, New Hampshire and Maine in the past few years. Located on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester for more than 20 years, Worcester Business Journal has been an active member of the community for nearly a quarter of a century. The publication partners with dozens of area nonprofits to increase the visibility of their events and has used its promotional muscle to help advance several worthy community causes. In addition, over the last few years, WBJ has been publishing a guide to nonprofits — the Central Mass Giving Guide — that profiles each firm, its mission and its volunteer opportunities. While many general–interest media companies — namely daily newspapers — have had to shrink their organizations over the last few years, WBJ and its parent company have been able to grow their regional B2B franchise in both sales and market share. n w o r c e s t e r , m a worcester Business Journal Address: 172 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA 01604 Phone: 508-755-8004 Fax: 508-755-8860 Website: www.wbjournal.com Product or Service: Business Publishing Head of Company: Peter Stanton, Publisher, CEO; Joe Zwiebel, Group Publisher and President Year Founded: 1990 Worcester Business Journal
