RAISES FUNDS FOR UCONN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VICTORY PARADE ▶ ▶ Employees from West Hartford wealth management firm Northstar Wealth Partners recently volunteered their time to sort and inspect food at Foodshare in Bloomfield. Their group successfully sorted 2,520 pounds of meat, which was rescued from Hartford-area supermarkets. Their work equated to 2,016 meals that were immediately sent onto food pantries and soup kitchens in Hartford and Tolland counties. NORTHSTAR WEALTH PARTNERS SORTS 2,520 POUNDS OF FOOD FOR FOODSHARE ▶ ▶ Twenty-one Plainville High School students recently visited GE's Industrial Solutions business in Plainville for a tour of the site's 17,000-square-foot New Product Introduction Accelerator Lab. The lab includes a team room, high-tech machine shop with 3D printing capabilities, product teardown area and a pilot-run production area. The GE tour was designed to complement PHS's "Shadowing for Success," program, which aims to bring 11th and 12th grade students together with business professionals to explore occupations. OF NOTE PULLMAN & COMLEY LAWYER RECEIVES 2015 LADDER AWARD Pullman & Comley lawyer Diane Whitney has been recognized by the Connecticut Bar Association's Women in the Law Section for dem- onstrating exceptional leadership affecting women. Whitney was granted the 2015 Ladder Award, which is given to someone who reflects outstanding contributions to women's leader- ship development in terms of impact, sustainability, comprehensive- ness, distinguished excellence, and leadership empowerment, partic- ularly in mentoring junior female attorneys. Whitney was nominated by her colleagues for her service as immedi- ate past chair of Pullman & Comley's Women's Leadership Initiative, specifically, for the development and implementation of women's leadership programs both within the firm and the greater community. She was also recognized for her contribution to the firm's culture, namely her mentoring. • • • UNITED ILLUMINATING CO. RECOGNIZED FOR RESTORATION EFFORTS The Edison Electric Institute presented electric utility The United Illuminating Co. with the association's "Emergency Assistance Award" for its work assisting in power restoration efforts after severe winter storms in Northern Vermont and Central Maine in 2013, and in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts in 2014. The awards were presented during EEI's spring CEO and board of directors meeting in Washington, D.C. • • • HOMEWOOD SUITES BY HILTON HARTFORD- FARMINGTON RECEIVES AWARD The Homewood Suites in Farmington recently won a Most Improved Service award from Hilton Worldwide. Over 100 individual and hotel awards were presented to recipients during a series of regional brand meetings across the country. The 121-suite Homewood Suites hotel, which is owned by Chatham Lodging and managed by Island Hospitality, was recognized for most improved guest satisfaction ratings year-over-year based on surveys and reviews on TripAdvisor. • • • AT&T CONNECTICUT'S EMRA JOINS CBIA BOARD John Emra, president of AT&T Connecticut, has been elected to the board of directors of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association. As AT&T Connecticut president since 2013, Emra has led the compa- ny's legislative, regulatory and community affairs activities in the state. Emra began his career at AT&T in Sept. 2001 and worked as its regional vice president for external and legislative affairs in Connecticut until becoming state president.
