An AUthorIzeD ContrACtor of technical insight, and helped secure $87,040 from the Energy Conscious Blueprint program. With a goal to reduce energy consumption, streamline facility maintenance, and increase overall energy efficiency, all indoor lighting was upgraded with high-efficiency CFL and LED lights. The drives, fans, and pumps of the heating and cooling system were updated along with a supplementary 10-ton chiller. "The transformation from an office space to a high-quality learning center requires new high-efficiency equipment or the modification of the existing systems with high-efficiency alternatives, which need to be consistent with or exceed the state energy code," said Roy Haller, UI director of commercial and industrial energy service programs. "Either way, it creates a perfect op- portunity to take advantage of efficiency fund's portfolio of programs." Quinnipiac is expected to achieve $61,702 bottom-line savings annually. CCAT will conduct a feasibility study on bio- fuel in northern Connecticut, near Bradley In- ternational Airport in Windsor Locks. The study looks at turning municipal waste and biomass into jet fuel, diesel fuel, and heating oil. CCAT will team with local engineering firms, airlines, waste companies, and government agencies. The organization believes the area is ripe for a center because of the close proximity to Bradley, waste sites, and feedstock growers. If a biofuel facility comes to fruition, CCAT expects to create 85 to 150 new jobs on top of the 1,200 jobs needed for construction. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Rep. John Larson (D-CT) announce CCAT's $100K grant. Photo | Contributed
