Potential natural gas customers must
weigh new burdens with price advantages
By Brad Kane & Keith Griffin
M
ore than 280,000 Connecticut business-
es and residents will split the $7 billion
cost of the natural gas heating expan-
sion, and it's up to the three utilities to make that
sound like an appealing deal.
"You will either break even or be cash-flow
positive," said Mike Collins, manager of sales and
marketing for Berlin utility Yankee Gas. "If you are
a large commercial or industrial user … your cost
advantages are enormous."
Mike Collins' ability to
convince potential customers
of the benefits of natural
gas heating will play a
significant role in the success
of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's
energy policy.
