6 Doing Business in Connecticut | 2014 Our Founding Partners Securing a Bright Future for Connecticut Proud of our strong, nearly 200-year partnership with Connecti- cut's business community, CBIA is committed to making our state a great place, not only to do business, but to live, work, and raise a family. We believe that Connecticut has unlimited potential, especially given the diversity of world- class businesses, large and small, located in our state across a wide range of industry sectors. An integral part of the social and economic fabric of our state, these businesses pay high wages, provide excellent benefits, and support local schools, charities, and many other organiza- tions in their communities. They also represent the very best in their industries, making Connecticut a world leader in innovation, R&D, and productivity. We're honored to represent our member companies before the state legislature and regulatory agencies. Our advocacy work has us serving in many capacities, including as a key source of data and analysis to guide policymakers in evaluating the economic impact of their proposals in areas such as the state budget, taxes, business costs, healthcare, education, environmental regula- tions, and many others. We are indebted to our members for the expertise they bring to all of our efforts to help policymakers strengthen Connecticut's com- petitive advantages and overcome barriers to economic growth. Although Connecticut is a small state, the level of involvement we get from the business community has made CBIA is one of the largest, most effective statewide business associations in the country. We're confident that by working together, we can secure a brighter future for our state. – John R. Rathgeber President and CEO Connecticut Business and Industry Association ECHN is honored to be part of this inaugural edition of Doing Business in Connecticut. We consider it to be an important and inspired communication about the benefits of economic growth seen through business development and expansion in our state. ECHN recognizes and celebrates the value of highly-skilled professionals and technological advancements that propel progression across industries such as education, healthcare, manufacturing and insurance. ECHN believes in providing high-quality, compassionate care for the well-being of the communities we serve. This fundamental principle has guided us for nearly a century, when mem- bers of the community began our two hospitals: Manchester Memorial and Rockville General in re- sponse to a growing need for health care services. We are proud to say that this indomitable spirit continues at ECHN. In furthering our mission to keep Connecticut residents healthy and well, ECHN is seeking to enter into an asset purchase agreement with a newly formed joint venture of Tenet Healthcare Corporation and Yale New Haven Health System. This innovative and strategic partner- ship will bring Tenet's size, access to investor capital and scale with Yale New Haven's strong national reputation for clinical excellence to create a sustainable, community-based health system for generations to come. We will continue to do what we do best for Connecticut resi- dents, easing pain, getting our patients back on their feet, welcoming newborns, offering access to compassionate world-class medicine, because at ECHN, caring never changes. We look forward to continuing to shape our collective futures in Connecticut. – Peter J. Karl President & CEO, Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Inc.
