The Open Hearth, Hartford is transitional, temporary shelter offers warm beds, nutritious food, work skills and recovery and mental health support to men in need. HCG believes in giving people a helping hand to help themselves. Brien Beakey has served as a director for e Open Hearth Association since 2002, currently as president of the board. e Open Hearth's emergency shelter is the oldest on the East Coast, having been open continuously since 1884, 365 days a year. HCG admires e Open Hearth's legacy of commitment to others and is proud to support the facility's work in giving men tools they need to break the cycle of homelessness. Other ways we give back Each year, HCG gets a team together to run in the GE 5K Road Race to benefit the Petit Family Foundation, which works hard to foster lives of young people, assist those with chronic illness and help those affected by violence. From helping the local United Way chapter purchase and fill backpacks with school supplies for children, to adopting a family for Christmas through a town program, to hosting regular clothing drives, HCG is always looking for new ways to reach out.
