P h o t o g r a P h i c m o m e n t s 2 0 5 Photogr aphers LEONARD HELLERMAN is well known for his artistic nature and landscape photography that uses advanced digital techniques. Hellerman is a longtime member and current president of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. In the winter months, he serves as the staff photographer for the Palm Beach Photographic Centre in Delray Beach, Fla., where he also assists with classes and work- shops. His imagery is on permanent display in many businesses and institutions in Greater Hartford and he has photographs in the permanent collections of the New Britain Museum of American Art and the William Benton Museum of Art of the University of Connecticut. ANDY HART grew up in Hartford's Blue Hills neighborhood. He began his career in journalism in 1989 as a reporter for the Glastonbury Citizen. Like most small-town newspapers, the Citizen required its reporters to shoot their own photos and Andy discovered he had a knack for the art. In 1992, he began working for the Hartford News in Hartford's South End. Over the years, Andy has worked there as a reporter, photographer, advertising salesman, art director, delivery boy and janitor. He has photographed thousands of Hartford events in the past two decades, with a particular emphasis on showcasing Hartford's rich diversity of ethnic groups and nationalities. EVA GRYK is a resident of New Britain. She has won numerous awards in the former New Britain Camera Club, local fairs, Greater Lynn International Color Exhibition, CT Association of Photographers and at the annual juried Joy of Art Show at Hospital for Special Care. In 2008, Eva was an Honorable Mention Winner in the Popular Photography Magazine Annual Readers' International Photo competi- tion, and in 2010 was a First Place Award Winner in the same Popular Photography Magazine contest. One of her prints was accepted into the Members Show at the New Britain Museum of American Art in 2010 and sold at auction during the museum's Annual Gala Art Party of the Year. Eva's published work has appeared in many books, most recently "Rum Runners, Governors, Beachcombers & Socialists —Views of the Beaches in Old Lyme." DAVID B. JENNIFER FIERECK decided to turn her hobby into a career and continue a family tradition after photographing her best friend's wed- ding ten years ago. In 2006, Jennifer and her husband, Dave, founded J. Fiereck Photography, which specializes in weddings and commercial projects, in addition to offering traditional portraits and event photog- raphy. J. Fiereck clients include Connecticut Children's Medical Center, CT Convention Center, Hartford Business Journal and Saint Francis Hospital. J. CHARLENE MCMAHON is a freelance photographer and writer. She has done photography for a C-Span publication, AOL Patch, Imprint Newspapers, the New Britain Herald, the Bristol Press, the Hartford Symphony, and Camp Courant. Her photos have been on exhibit at the Canton Gallery on the Green, the West Hartford Art League, and the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport. JOHN MURPHY has had an interest in photography for many years, but only became serious about pursuing his passion in 2003. Since the beginning of 2004, he has worked exclusively with digital imaging. John has been a member of the New Britain Camera Club, the New Haven Camera Club and the Charter Oak Photographic Society which he cur- rently serves as President. He has competed in many local and regional photography competitions and has won numerous awards. Most recent- ly, his "Another Slot Shot" was named the Traditional Color Print of the Year at the Charter Oak Photographic Society's annual competition John has had his work displayed at the West Hartford Art League and the Art League of New Britain as well as the New Britain Museum of American Art's Juried Shows and the Hospital for Special Care's "Joy of Art" shows. STEVE LASCHEVER has been working as a photographer for a quarter-century. He has become renowned for the warmth of his por- traits of local personalities and his ability to capture the significant moment in the life of a person or community.
