P H o t o g r a P H i c M o M e n t s 1 5 Hartford loves celebrating the accomplishments of our beloved UConn Huskies who so often bring home national championships. and later expanded to include the Belding Theater. Its main theatre features "Drama," the largest hand-painted ceiling mural of its type in the United States. Located just east of the State Capitol, the Bushnell continues to play host to major Broadway shows, symphony performances and operas. It has an annual roster of more than 350 events and an annual audience of more than 300,000. The Hartford Stage, which celebrates its golden anniversary in 2013, continues to be one of the leading resident theatres in the United States. It is known internationally for its entertaining and inspiring presentation of a wide range of the best of world drama, from classics to provocative new plays and musicals and neglected works from the past. The third piece of Hartford's vibrant professional theater community is TheaterWorks, an off-Broadway-style the- ater that produces unique repertory that addresses a broad variety of community issues. It is known for showcasing the talents of up-and-coming performers as well as established onstage and offstage Broadway veterans. Finally no salute to Hartford is possible without the inclusion of its suburbs. The 35 towns that make up Greater Hartford are so much more than bedroom communities with their inviting retail experiences like Evergreen Walk in South Windsor and Blue Back Square in West Hartford. While Hartford is the epicenter of exotic cuisine, even our sub- urbs have embraced ethnic restaurants. The same can be said of the suburbs and their enthusiastic support of home- grown entertainment such as community theaters in New Britain and West Hartford, and even light opera in Simsbury. So, if you haven't meditated on all that is right about Hartford, take a moment as you peruse this tome to remember all that makes this city and region the great place it is. – Keith Griffin kim knox BeckiuS
