1 3 8 H a r t f o r d The Hartford The Hartford, founded in 1810, is a leading provider of insurance and wealth management services for millions of consumers and businesses. T hroughout its long history, The Hartford has insured some of the nation's most famous construction projects, including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam, and has paid claims related to some of the largest and most destructive disasters: the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, and more recently, the September 11 ter- rorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina. Abraham Lincoln, Buffalo Bill Cody, Babe Ruth and Dwight Eisenhower are among the notable citi- zens who have been Hartford policyholders. Today, The Hartford is a Fortune 100 company energized with a new vision for the future. In September 2009, the company welcomed Liam E. McGee as its chairman, president and chief execu- tive officer. Six months after his arrival, McGee announced his plans to organize The Hartford's operations around three businesses: commercial markets, wealth manage- ment and consumer markets. "We are organized around our key customer growth opportunities: risk protection and benefits for businesses, wealth management, and consumer risk protection for affinity groups and select customer segments," said McGee. On May 10, 2010, The Hartford celebrated its 200th anniversary by ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange, sponsoring employee community service proj- ects and events around the country, and recognizing agents and partners with philanthropic contributions in their honor. "For 200 years, this iconic American com- pany has helped its customers achieve financial confi- dence, earning a reputation for trust, integrity and cus- tomer service excellence," McGee said as the company ushered in its third century. "We are well-positioned to move forward and have everything we need for success." Integrity is the backbone of The Hartford's corpo- rate culture and its reputation for honesty in business dealings is legendary. The company's commitment to ethical behavior continues to this day.
