Another beautiful outdoor jewel is Elizabeth Park, on the border of Hartford and West Hartford. Its stunning rose gardens are a popular destination and must be among the most photographed places in Greater Hartford. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound outside the city. The MDC West Hartford Reservoir and Reservoir 6 are outstanding venues for endeavors both sedentary and aggressive. Case Mountain in Manchester is considered among the best places in all of Connecticut (and probably Southern New England) for mountain biking. Our most stunning natural resource continues to be the Connecticut River that forms the eastern border of our capital city. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Riverfront Recapture, this waterway that winds 407 miles from the Canadian border through Hartford down to Long Island Sound, has become a great source of recreation and enter- tainment. More importantly, Riverfront Recapture celebrates the diverse ethnicity of Greater Hartford and helps preserve and present cultural traditions through the programs it presents from spring to fall. Even our tobacco fields, so artfully captured in these pages, have a certain beauty to them and are an important part of our agrarian history. The broad leaf tobacco grown here wraps some of the finest cigars in the world. One element that has changed a great deal since last we published a photographic tribute to Greater Hartford in 2008 is how its people, places and things are captured for posterity and how those images are shared. No longer is it necessary to tramp down to the drugstore to process your film (which still exists somewhere we're sure). Now you simply pull your cell phone from your purse or pocket and point and shoot. Your image is instantly available for your world to see via Facebook, Twitter or other social networking sites.
