BP-14 Hartford Business Journal • March 3, 2014 www.HartfordBusiness.com HBJBUSINESSPROFILES In Print, Online, And In Person, The Hartford Business Journal Strives D elivering Business ... that's what the Hartford Business Journal team is all about. Whether in print, on line or in person, the Hartford Business Journal strives to be at the center of the business com- munity, reporting and connecting companies with news, analysis and information. Formed in 1992, the Hartford Business Journal is Central Connecticut's most trusted weekly news source. In the early years the newspaper was filled with news about insurance companies, the demise of retail depart- ment stores in downtown Hartford, the possibility of a casino in Connecticut, and small business start-ups. Readers enjoyed the Movers and Shakers section and the Top lists which informed the reader of the size of companies and their ranking. Soon readers wanted more news more often. By its third year, the newspaper's in-depth reporting and local business information published weekly. In addi- tion, special publications like the Book of Lists and 40 Under Forty became quick favorites in the business community. Today the newspaper reports the business activity in 61 towns surrounding the Capital City. In addition to a weekly focus on specific topics, the news- paper also features two pages of opinions by our editor, local experts and our readers. Supplements such as the "Giving Guide," "Book of Lists" and "Trendlines" allow businesses both small and large to have their finger on the pulse of the Hartford Region. In 2007, Hartford Business Journal was purchased from Worcester Publishing Ltd. by Joe Zwiebel, HBJ Founding Publisher and Peter Stanton, previously CEO of Worcester Publishing Ltd. The new company, New England Business Media also includes Worcester Busi- ness Journal, a bi-weekly publication in Massachusetts, and MAINEBIZ, a bi-weekly business publication cover- ing the state of Maine. New England Business Media's mission is simple: deliver award winning news and analysis to readers in the local business communities. The company is committed to delivering news to a highly targeted audience of business decision makers and leaders for our advertisers through print, on line products and events. "To succeed we must embrace innovation in all that we do as a company." says Joe Zwiebel, Founding Pub- lisher of HBJ and President of New England Business Media. One of the ways that NEBM is able to continue to introduce new products is through the exchange of information and ideas in a nationwide business pub- lication association called Alliance of Area Business Publications (AABP). "Sharing best practices with our colleagues across the nation and the globe is an efficient way to keep pace with the changing media landscape." says Stanton. A recent successful innovation product was the CT Green Guide, which published its inaugural issue in October of 2012. This statewide publication is dedicated to bringing news about the business of sustainability. CT Green Guide provides news and information that will help companies enhance their bottom lines and achieve environmental responsibility. This quarterly publication has a focus on waste management, recycling, energy efficiency, architecture, construction, and engineering. "My favorite element of the Green Guide is the Green Warrior feature, which highlights an individual doing amazing work in the area of sustainability," says one regular reader. "It's a great opportunity to learn news about this ever changing topic." Hartford Business Journal has seen an increase in its number of readers — both in print and on line.
