It is the only maternity group home in the State of Connecticut and for over 100 years has provided so many children with a bright and hopeful future. The young women who at SAH are often survivors of physical and emotional abuse and many times don't have the benefits of parental support and guidance. Our program pushes to break the cycle by providing safe, reliable, and stable housing; prenatal education and support; education; proper nutrition; parenting skills; daycare; nurturing; life skills; and the opportunity to get on the road to a level of self sufficiency. Goals • Save and change lives of women and children intergenerationally by providing an exemplary residential program for pregnant and parenting youth. • Provide support to foster a healthy pregnancy and successful delivery for our young women enrolled in our program by providing proper nutrition and encouraging access to proper prenatal healthcare. • Ensure that 100 percent of our young mothers are enrolled and receiving the appropriate academic services and supports, as that is often a barrier for most young moms. • Build alliances and resources to provide our services to other young parents who are not living in St. Agnes Home . • Target recruitment of new trustees to join and expand our dynamic Board of Directors. • Gain additional funding to enhance our workforce development program where we provide paid internships for our young women to gain real work experience. fundraisinG events/opportunities We hold two annual signature fund raising events. The value-centered program emphazises a respect for life recognizing the uniqueness, dignity and optimum potential of each individual. " " M y time at St. Agnes Home was a very important experience in my life. I did not see it as a group home, I saw it as a family. The residents and staff that were there, took care of each other, we residents encouraged each other, we looked at the staff as parents, and they were parents for us. If it weren't for St. Agnes Home I don't know how I would have made it. – shanda comeaux , MSW former resident. Board of trustees volunteers Pat Phalon and Phil Prespare from the Knights of Columbus present lorna little with a $24,000 donation.
