There are sponsorship and volunteer opportunities for all. Here is a summary of our events: • JA Classic Golf Tournament. This event, held at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield on the first Monday in June, has been attracting top business leaders for 16 years. Thanks to the event's high-end gift package, great customer service and opportunities for customer entertainment, it has earned a reputation as one of the best charity golf tournaments in New England. • Business Hall of Fame. This dinner honors men and women whose careers in business and dedication to improving the local community make them an inspiration and role model for young people. There are separate Business Halls of Fame in both Hartford and New Haven. Both high-end events are held in the spring. • Bowl-a-Thons. This is an opportunity for teams of employees, relatives and friends to enjoy an afternoon or evening of bowling and, by soliciting funds and pledges, raise money to help Junior Achievement. JA hosts several events throughout the year in the Hartford and New Haven areas. • Partners in Achievement breakfasts. These breakfasts, one in New Haven in the fall and one in Hartford in the spring, provide an opportunity to learn about the impact JA is having in the local community. Speakers include students, educators, volunteers and donors. The breakfast is free, but those who attend are asked to consider donating to the organization. volunteer opportunities Junior Achievement relies on volunteers from business and the community to provide its programs to students. Working side by side with classroom teachers, JA volunteers lead students through a series of fun and engaging activities primarily during the school day. JA has designed its programs with an understanding that most individuals face time constraints. Thus, elementary school programs last only five class periods, middle school programs last only six class periods and most high school programs only last seven class periods. All volunteers receive training and detailed guidebooks that provide class scripts, lesson plans and activities designed to make the classroom experience gratifying and successful. Volunteers say they get a deep sense of satisfaction from making a difference in students' lives. GivinG opportunities Individuals and businesses can financially support JA programs in the following ways: • Sponsor a "JA in A Day" program, in which all students at a local elementary school receive JA programming. Cost: $10,000 to $25,000, depending on the school size. • Sponsor an entire grade level of JA programs (roughly five programs/classrooms). Cost: $5,000. • Sponsor one JA classroom program.
