We strive to raise public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society: and we work to bring hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle. Goals • To change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders • To bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis • To bring the general community together understand the struggles of autism; specifically in the areas of transition into adulthood, employment and housing • To spread awareness, education, acceptance and understanding • To raise the funds necessary to support our mission and goals fundraisinG events/opportunities Walk Now for Autism Speaks, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks' signature fundraising and awareness event. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum and local businesses and companies that employ those on the spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder. In New England, we host 7 Walk Now for Autism Speaks events; go to www. walknowforautismspeaks.org to find one near you. Throughout New England, we host several autism resources fairs, trainings, conferences, presentations and family days/events — such as our sensory friendly performance of Broadway's The Lion King in Boston. We are always looking for volunteers to help with these events and committees to help implement even more. Please email us at newenglandchapter@autismspeaks.org for more information and to get involved. GivinG opportunities The majority of our funding is from private donors, primarily families affected by autism through our Walk Now for Autism Speaks and other events. We urge the corporate community to be more involved and invested in this cause. The annual cost of autism services is $60,000 and growing fast. Most families are not able to fully pay for the supports they need. Fundraising and financial support should not all fall on the autism community, but the community at large. This creates opportunities for the corporate community and businesses, large and small, to help. We have New England wide walk sponsorship opportunities, local walk sponsorship opportunities, non-walk corporate involvement, funding scientific research, the Google 10K genome project, community awareness efforts, grants and more. We are also looking to foster relationships in New England that would grow to national partnerships to help to achieve our mission and goals — and we need your financial corporate support to do so.
