The Club focuses on participation rather than competition, bringing together individuals of all abilities to engage in regular physical activity and improve overall fitness and wellness. • Grow and strengthen our 72 volunteer-run Local Programs in Connecticut communities. • Attract, train and certify highly qualified coaches and officials to assist with year-round sports training and competitions. fundraisinG events/opportunities Special Olympics Connecticut hosts several grass-roots fundraising events a year, the largest being: Law Enforcement Torch Run — A three-day running event where officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" through more than 100 cities and towns to the site of the Opening Ceremonies of Special Olympics' Summer Games. The Torch Run also encompasses year-round fundraising initiatives, such as Tip-A-Cop and Cop-On-Top. Penguin Plunge — Individuals and team participants jump in chilly waters of Connecticut in six locations across the state, January through March, to raise funds. Over the Edge — Individuals rappel down one of Connecticut's most prominent buildings to raise awareness and funding.
