Projects under way include: • Construction of comprehensive, state-of-the-art Bone & Joint Institute on Seymour Street in Hartford • Expansion of the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation, our strategic response to the growing demand for medical education and training • Relocation of Brownstone Clinic to Jefferson Street Elevate further Hartford Hospital's highly regarded programs and services, including cardiovascular surgery, cancer care, transplant, stroke, neurosciences, women's health, and psychiatry. Continue enhancing the well-being of our neighbors by providing over $100 million worth of community benefit activities, ranging from charity care to health improvement services. GivinG opportunities We are broadening our facilities and resources to meet the demands of the rapidly changing healthcare environment. The capstone of this plan is a state-of-the-art Bone & Joint Institute. Designed to be the premier musculoskeletal center in the region, the Bone & Joint Institute will transform care while increasing the hospital's value to the larger patient population. The institute's new home will free up space across our campus, allowing modernization of operating rooms and intensive care units and enabling an increase in private rooms from our current 55 percent to over 75 percent. Given the magnitude of the investment required to bring this transformational vision to reality, the hospital will look to its family, friends, and the many communities served for philanthropic partnership. The hospital is mounting a major capital campaign to raise the dollars required to fund the Bone & Joint Institute and to renovate our community clinic and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation, among other critical clinical areas. The campaign planning committee, chaired by George Estes, has begun seeking early gifts. fundraisinG events/opportunities The Black & Red is our signature fundraiser. Since 1992, through sponsorships and ticket sales, the evening of dining and entertainment has raised $8.9 million to benefit hospital programs. The 2015 gala, scheduled for January 24 at The Bushnell and featuring the Blues Brothers Starring Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi, will benefit the Trauma Center at Hartford Hospital. Through fundraising events, the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary provides gifts to the hospital community totaling several hundred thousand dollars each year. In addition, community fund-raising events, ranging from golf tournaments to road races, directly support the services the hospital provides to the community. volunteer opportunities Nearly 1,200 people volunteer in 241 areas of the hospital and the Institute of Living. They perform nearly 106,000 hours of service, equivalent to 52 full-time employees and more than $3 million in salaries.
