Instead of spending money on stations to drive demand, Connecticut should offer incentives for people to buy electric vehicles on top of the federal incentives, as states like California do. Companies like The Hartford do their own program to encourage sustainable commuting. The financial services company challenged its Connecticut employees to get to work in the most sustainable ways possible, including elec- tric vehicles, carpooling, biking, public transit, and walking. This is on top of other efforts by The Hartford that have reduced its greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent since 2010, reduced its internal paper use by 26 percent since 2012, and provided more green products for customers like insurance premium discounts for owners of electric vehicles.
