Plugging The Holes

A
s utilities embark on a $7 billion, 10-year plan to
turn natural gas into the heating fuel of choice
in Connecticut, the state is making sure the en-
vironmental benefits are maximized.
While natural gas burns 30 percent cleaner than fuel
oil and 50 percent cleaner than coal, those gains can be
negated by problems with the delivery pipelines that
leak methane — the primary component of natural gas.
