During the six years I worked in the information technology trade media, I enjoyed a second-row seat to an
endless stream of innovation. There was never a shortage of stuff to write about.
More than a dozen years later, that hasn't changed, and I'm reasonably confident it never will. The United
States has always prided itself on innovation and ingenuity. To put it more simply, it's about the American dream,
and it's been imbued in our culture since we were loyal to the crown (sort of). How else to explain the popular-
ity of the ABC-TV show "Shark Tank," in which entrepreneurs pitch their inventions to a group of potential
investors?
Our Focus section in this edition is about ingenuity and innovation, as well as growth. Emily Micucci's story on Page 12 addresses
growth opportunities in Asia for several Central Massachusetts technology firms. On Page 13, Sam Bonacci offers examples of technol-
ogy knowhow that helped keep work and education humming last month despite snowstorms most of us would prefer to forget. And,
on Page 15, read Livia Gershon's piece on how Kopin Corp. of Westborough is preparing for the coming rise of wearable technology.
And lest we forget, with April 15 approaching, read our story on what's happening with Section 179 deductions on Page 11.
