That's our cornerstone for this issue, as we unveil the results of the second annual business climate survey conducted by the 495/MetroWest Partnership, MetroWest495 Biz and Framingham State University. In the article, written by Emily Micucci, (Page 11), find out how various companies are doing, where they see the economy going, and how their views compare with the results of last year's inaugural survey. The color graphics throughout the story offer a quick, visual synopsis. This issue was being assembled last week just as GE Healthcare Life Sciences announced it would establish Marlborough as its headquarters. "This … investment, adding more than 220 new jobs with an exciting biotechnology leader, is proof that innovation is thriving outside Route 128, and of Marlborough's ability to build the necessary infrastructure to attract top-tier, global life sciences companies," Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant said. In another story (Page 20), we look at the future of Framingham as a potential technology mecca. Leave the driving to – someone else Also, there's a new phase of ease in getting from here to there in the region — improved public transportation. With MBTA improvements to train lines in Fitchburg — including a new station in Littleton — and more trips added to the Worcester- Framingham line, public transit is chugging along. On Page 18, Livia Gershon gives us a look at what this means for the economy and the environment. Is it enough? Or are more changes needed? Handle with care Boston-based information management company Iron Mountain played a meaningful role earlier this year after a state — and national — tragedy. At its Northborough facility, the company archived, preserved and stored items from the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings memorial, including wooden crosses that were placed in Copley Square. As Linda Bock tells us on Page22, it's not the first time the firm has quietly — and respectfully — pitched in to help after a tragedy. Other issue highlights We've packed this edition with the sections you've come to know and love. What it Takes profiles executive coach Ed McDonough on Page 26. Out and About gives you a bird's eye view into networking events around the region, on Page 8. And our list of the top biomedical companies in MetroWest can be found on Page 10. Editor extraordinaire Last but not least, I'm thrilled to announce the new editor of MetroWest495 Biz — Emily Micucci — who wears a reporter's hat most of the time at Worcester Business Journal. A MetroWest resident, she's a savvy journalist with keen insight and a proven track record of covering this area's business news.
