MARLBOROUGH MULLS SANDISK TAX DEAL Marlborough's city council is considering a tax break proposal for California-based SanDisk Corp., which is looking to relocate its regional research operations to the city. The flash storage company said it wants to lease 60,000 square feet in the Solomon Pond Office Park and add 60 jobs over the next three years. SanDisk said the relocation would result in a $14.5-million investment into the long-vacant building at 200 Donald Lynch Blvd. The company is asking for a five-year Tax Increment Financ- ing package that would exempt SanDisk from all property taxes in the 2015 fiscal year (starting July 1, 2014), 50 percent of taxes in FY 2016, 30 percent in FY 2017, 20 percent in FY 2018 and 10 percent in FY 2019. EASTERN BROADENS BASE WITH ACQUISITION Natick-based Eastern Insurance Group LLC said it has acquired Smith Buckley & Hunt, a 12-person insurance agency based in Brockton. Eastern said the acquisition will boost its customer base south of Boston, where it already has 10 locations. This is the latest acquisition for Eastern, which said it has taken over 34 companies over the past two decades and is now the largest Massachusetts-based insurance agency. "Brockton is a natural extension of the markets that we now serve," Hope Aldrich, Eastern's president and CEO, said in a statement. Eastern Insurance is a subsidiary of Boston-based Eastern Bank. Smith Buckley's office at 500 Forest St. in Brockton will remain open and be rebranded as an Eastern Insurance loca- tion later this year. Once that is complete, Eastern will have 24 locations in New England. Smith Buckley was founded in 1875 and has been owned by the Smith family since 1922. Two of the company's principals will remain with the company post-merger, Eastern said, while the third will retire. The merger should provide Eastern customers with access to a broader range of insurance products and services, Aldrich said. Smith Buckley sells auto, home and business insurance, as well as employee benefits packages. roundup Fore Kicks – Marlboro, MA Parsons Commercial Group, Northborough, MA Service Tire Truck Center - Millbury, MA There's a Reason Why Businesses Across Massachusetts are Installing Solar Energy solect.com | info@solect.com 508-598-3511 | Hopkinton, MA As a leading commercial solar developer & installer, Solect delivers smart solar solutions to help businesses and organizations reduce energy costs.
