www.wbjournal.com Worcester Business Journal Business Profiles 2014 23 Kathie Manning, "and the new location will allow us to better serve all the workforce needs of employers in Central Massachusetts." QCC's new location is not only good news for any- one looking to better their career, and for healthcare organizations and local businesses that need highly qualified staff, it's also good news for the local econo- my. The campus will occupy 2,000 feet of formerly vacant street-level space, and classes and programs will bring thousands of individuals to the area nearly every day. Students, faculty, staff and visitors will all be within walking distance of the many local businesses that occupy the area. In fact, it's no accident that QCC's new campus doesn't include a cafeteria. Those in search of a great lunch will be out and about at nearby restaurants and stores. The new campus "will bring a renewed sense of activity to our downtown neighborhood," explained Worcester Business Development Corporation President and CEO, Craig Blais, at the lease-signing event. There are other benefits to students as well. Several bus lines feed the downtown area, increasing educa- tional access and convenience for greater numbers of individuals. For those arriving by car, efforts are under- way to provide parking that emphasizes public safety. Furthermore, the movement of several programs to the new location frees up much-needed space at QCC's main campus. "In addition to alleviating significant congestion on our West Boylston Street campus, our new location is in the heart of Worcester's high growth industry and located on multiple, main bus routes—accessible to everyone," added Carberry. When it opens its doors to students in September, QCC's Healthcare and Workforce Development Center will represent another important step for a College with a rich history of educating Central Massachusetts resi- dents. It also demonstrates a significant investment in higher education by the College, the city and the state, and for those that love Worcester, that's great news. "I'm from Worcester originally and seeing down- town become a vital and exciting place to go is just amazing," said June. "I like being part of a solution, and the college has made a commitment to the future of this city."
