The Central Mass/MetroWest Health Care Resource Guide • 2014 – 2015 3 FROM THE PUBLISHER W elcome to our first Central Mass/MetroWest Health Care Resource Guide. The compilation of lists you'll find in this special publication is effectively a "book of lists" for the region's health care providers, and we hope the information our researchers have pulled together to create these lists makes it easier for you to find this data. The local health care industry continues to undergo rapid change, and how providers deliver their services to consumers is transforming before our eyes. From Massachusetts' early leadership in providing near- universal health care for its residents to the passage and implementation of the federal Affordable Care Act, the die has been recast at the state and national levels on how health care is being delivered and paid for. Add to that the rapid changes in technology and the new tools that are in landing in the hands of providers and consumers, and we're living in a real game- changing time. On these pages, you'll find an article highlighting many of those trends and changes that came out of a recent panel discussion hosted by the Worcester Business Journal on the future of health care in our region. With all those changes, and those that have yet to take place, the next few years may be both an invigorating and confusing time for consumers. With that in mind, our goal with this resource guide is to provide a roadmap of sorts for business and consumers to the many providers in several key niches in the marketplace. From hospitals to senior care providers, skilled nursing facilities, and many more, we have listed the top players in an easy-to-access format. HoW did We do? While we're not new to the business of publishing lists (which we've done for several years), we're researching many of these categories for the first time. If you're one of the thousands of health care professionals receiving this publication who know the playing field well, let us know if there key businesses we missed, listings that need fixes, or a category we should include. Since we plan to do this again next year, all the feedback you have, the good and bad, will be appreciated. Please contact one of us, or our editor, Rick Saia (rsaia@wbjournal.com). We look forward to hearing from you as we explore how our organization can deliver more value as the health care industry continues to evolve.
