OK, back to work!
Now that the holidays are history, this week marks the beginning of what many business forecasters see as
good — no, make that great — days ahead.
When you end a year with as much positive economic news as we had in December — strong state and
national job growth, increasing consumer confidence, 5-percent U.S. economic growth in the third quarter
and gains in the stock markets — many tend to believe, or at least want to believe, that there's more where that
came from as we turn the corner into January.
Real estate is a key component of any economy, and in this issue, we focus on the commercial real estate market in Central
Massachusetts, starting on the front page with Sam Bonacci's story on the redevelopment of historic buildings. Inside, on pages 12
and 13, we look at how some communities are loosening up on zoning and permitting to attract more business, and how GE
Healthcare Life Sciences' pending move to Marlborough is leading more businesses to look at the area as a possible destination.
Also, Emily Micucci's front-page story takes a deeper look at the proposed veterans' health care facility in Worcester.
So, with that, Happy New Year — and get back to work!
