But there is also a great satisfaction for us in moving a large complex problem to a logical, elegant solution. We think this makes us a little different. Our clients tell us it makes us better. Federman, Lally & Remis – Not Your Typical Bean Counters. Complexity re-envisioned. 231 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032 | 860-678-7100 | www.flrcpa.com Remarkable women find balance in work, life F inding a work-life balance is hard for many working people, but for business and nonprofit executives the challenge can be even more daunting. The demands of running a company can often get in the way of personal life. But for many successful professionals achieving a balanced lifestyle is precisely what makes them stand out as leaders inside and outside their organization. We have used the work-life balance theme as the backdrop for our 12th annual Women in Business awards, which recognize eight remarkable women who are making a dif- ference within their organization and the community. This year's winners are extremely diverse, both in personality and in the industries and organizations they represent. We've got a high-powered CEO, a nonprofit executive who is also a minister, a lieutenant governor, and an immigration lawyer. Our winners also include an insurance broker and organizational development and consumer banking executives. As you read about Hartford Business Jour- nal's eight remarkable women honorees, you will discover each of them has overcome many obstacles trying to grow their organi- zation and lead a life outside the workplace. You'll also notice many of our winners make it a priority to be active in the community, stressing the importance of giving back as a way to achieve true fulfillment. They are board members, serve on lead- ership committees of nonprofits, mentor, are leaders in industry associations, and encourage their teams to give back. Social responsibility is definitely an important value for this group. In each of past 12 years, Hartford Business Journal has honored eight of the region's most highly talented women in leadership roles throughout Central Connecticut. The winners are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges (read more about the judges on Page 28). The honorees demon- strate a business savvy, confidence in them- selves and their organizations, and a strong track record of success in the business world. We hope you enjoy this issue and will consider attending the celebration to be held from 11 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. It will be an inspiring event where past and present winners share their advice, inspiration, and reflections. – Greg Bordonaro Editor Meet this year's winners! Christine Andrews .......... 14 Rev.
