As such, it's clear that Maine's future prosperity is inextricably linked to the nonprofit sector's ability to sustain and enhance our highly rated quality of life. In addition to supporting the values and ideals that Maine citizens hold dear, Maine nonprofits also invest significant financial and human resources in communities around the state. Did you know that Maine nonprofits: f Employed over 84,000 individuals in a full range of entry-level to executive positions in 2013 f Paid more than $3.6 billion in wages that support families and businesses throughout Maine in 2013 f Contributed 18.9% of the state's gross product, putting over $10 billion to work for all sectors of the Maine economy in 2012 For 20 years, the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP) has been the comprehensive management support resource for Maine nonprofits, providing the tools, knowledge and connections they need to be effective and further their mission impact. MANP's value to the sector is reflected in its growing statewide membership of over 800 nonprofit organizations and 150 for-profit supporters because, in one member's words, "MANP is a vital partner in our ability to advance our mission, and is one of the most effective organizations in the state." In short, MANP members recognize that effective staff and board leadership and a heightened awareness of the many contributions of the sector are critically important to ensuring the health and vitality of the people and economy of Maine. Maine businesses have long appreciated the role that the state's nonprofit community plays in building a strong and sustainable economy, as communities where quality of life issues rank highly are increasingly becoming the places that people are choosing to live. As such, MANP is proud to once again collaborate with Mainebiz in highlighting the significant contributions Maine nonprofits make to supporting our economy and fostering the values that matter most to the people of Maine.
