SymQuest gives $30K to Lewiston nonprofits SymQuest, a managed IT services company in Lewiston, has awarded a total of $30,000 in office technology to two Lewiston nonprofits as part of the company's annual office makeover pro- gram. e company said it has awarded $25,000 to New Beginnings, a non- profit serving homeless families and youth. SeniorsPlus, a nonprofit serving local seniors and adults with disabili- ties, received $5,000 from SymQuest. Thrifty Car Mart in Lewiston now offers the CarMark Certified Pre-Owned pro- gram, an automobile warranty program administered by National Auto Care. Sugarloaf, a ski resort in Carrabassett Valley, announced its Charity Summit raised $203,500 to support cancer research and treatment in Maine. BIW target of federal harassment lawsuit Bath Iron Works is facing a federal lawsuit from a former worker who claims he was harassed and discrimi- nated against because he is a Muslim and is of Palestinian descent. e Bangor Daily News reported that an attorney for Husam D. Abed, who began work at BIW as a designer in 2007 and left last year, claims in the lawsuit that he "faced severe discrimination and harassment based solely on his religion, race and national origin." e lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in November. e federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has found no probable cause for the alleged discrimination, a position that has been adopted by the Maine Human Rights Commission. BIW spokesman Matt Wickenheiser, Abed's attorney and a spokesman for the union representing BIW shipyard workers all declined to provide com- ment to the BDN on Jan. 30. Verso completes sale of Bucksport mill Verso Paper has completed its $60 million sale of its shuttered Bucksport mill to the subsidiary of Canadian scrap metal company American Iron & Metal. e Portland Press Herald reported that AIM Development LLC, which closed on its purchase of the mill on Jan. 29, "is in discussions with an operator" that would restart the paper mill. However, the company declined to provide further comment. e mill was shut down by Verso in December, lay- ing off more than 500 employees. Net income was $14.7 million, up $1.7 million or 13.5% from 2013. Earnings per share totaled $1.37, up 17 cents, or 14.2%, from 2013. The bank also announced unau- dited results for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2014. Net income was $3.4 million, down $76,000 or 2.2% from the fourth quarter of 2013. On a per-share basis, earnings were 32 cents, down a penny from the comparable period a year ago Camden National Corp., a bank hold- ing company in Camden, reported net income for the fourth quarter of 2014 of $6.1 million, up 38% from the same period a year earlier. Earnings per share were 82 cents, a 41% gain. Casco Bay Wealth Advisors in Bath es- tablished a charitable giving program, CBWA Investing In The Community. The program is designed to financially assist local nonprofit organizations se- lected by the partners of the firm.
