Franklin County chamber names new leader e Franklin County Chamber of Commerce named Penny Meservier as its new executive director. She started on Jan. 2. e Lewiston Sun Journal reported that Meservier, who has worked at the newspaper as an advertising sales associate, was chosen out of 20 applicants. e chamber's search for a new leader started after former director Erin Arthers resigned this fall for personal reasons. Group to challenge CMP- related wind project An industry group consisting of paper mills and other large power users is planning to challenge a major wind project in Somerset County being proposed by a subsidiary of Central Maine Power's parent company. e Portland Press Herald reported that the Industrial Energy Consumer Group is questioning whether the West Range Wind proposal by Iberdrola Renewables complies with the state's deregulation rules that require power generators and distri- bution utilities to be separate. e Maine Public Utilities Commission was expected to begin discussing the project in early January. e Industrial Energy Consumer Group said it is concerned that the project would be treated favorably as a power generator by CMP, a distribution utility that is owned by Iberdrola Renewables' par- ent company, Spain-based Iberdrola S.A. Paul Copleman, a spokesman for Iberdrola Renewables, told the newspaper it's not likely that CMP would give preferential treatment to the wind project.
