BEST PLACES
FOR BUSINESS
C
onnecticut's 169 municipalities offer vastly
different environments for businesses,
developers and investors. Some benefit
from large employment centers and established
commercial districts, while others compete
through lower taxes, streamlined permitting,
strong infrastructure or policies designed to
encourage investment.
Best Places for Business takes a closer look
at those differences and how communities
across the state are competing for economic
development.
At the center of the publication is the inaugural
Connecticut Commercial Opportunity Index,
developed by the Yankee Institute in partnership
with the Hartford Business Journal. The index
evaluates all 169 municipalities based on two
broad measures: the strength of their commercial
real estate markets, and the cost and ease of
transacting in those communities.
The rankings are complemented by original
reporting examining how municipalities are
competing for development, how developers
choose where to invest and the incentives towns
and cities use to attract projects.
Overall, the publication provides a new look at
how Connecticut communities are creating
opportunities for business investment and
growth. It also gives developers, investors,
brokers, lenders, corporate site selectors
and others a tool for evaluating where those
opportunities exist across the state.
