e airport, site of the annual
Sterling Fair, has been active since
1948.
Stokes is a pilot of both gliders and

the airport will continue to operate
as he considers the long-term future
of the site. Early conversations with
Sterling Fair organizers have been
positive, he said, as they discuss the
future of that event at the site.
e sale included about 94.5 acres
of land including the airport, with
some woodlands to the east of the
airport remaining in the possession of
Fields at Greenmeadow, according to
registry records.
e airport was sold by Fields at
Greenmeadow LLC, an entity managed
by Gail Ferreira of Westford.
e airport is home to the Greater
Boston Soaring Club, a nonprofit of
over 100 gliding enthusiasts, according

Sterling Airport's activation dates to
1948, according to Federal Aviation
Administration records.
Since 1999, the airport has hosted
the Sterling Fair, which claims to be
one of the largest free, all-volunteer
events of its kind in the Northeast. e
fair dates back to the 1800s. It ended
in the 1950s but returned in 1981 for
Sterling's bicentennial.
Fair organizers did not immediately
respond to requests for comment on
the sale or its potential impact on the
annual event.
James Umphrey, Brian Johnson,
and Drew Higgins of Kelleher &

served as listing brokers for this
