wbjournal.com | September 21, 2026 | Worcester Business Journal 27 Enterprise Cleaning Corporation W orcester Business Journal's Chris Juetten sat down with Stephen Buchalter, found- er, owner, president & CEO of Enterprise Cleaning Corpora- tion to discuss its evolving role in commercial cleaning in the Central Massachusetts region. For more than 23 years, Enter- prise has been a trusted resource for our business community. Chris Juetten: Enterprise has grown significantly over the years. What has been the biggest factor behind your company's success? Steve Buchalter: Our success has never been about cleaning buildings. It's been about building relationships. We treat every client's facility as if it was our own and we genuinely care about the peo- ple we serve. Our employees are just as important. We've built a culture where people are respected, recognized, and given opportunities to grow. When you take care of your employees, they'll take excep- tional care of your customers. CJ: Why is trust especially important to the local business community? SB: e commercial cleaning industry has changed dramatically over the years. What changes have had the most impact? Customer expectations have changed signifi- cantly. Years ago, clients expected a clean building. Today, they expect transparency, fast communica- tion, documented inspections, technology and a partner they can trust. e pandemic also elevated the importance of professional cleaning. Businesses now understand that cleanliness isn't just about ap- pearance. It's about health, safety, employee morale and protecting their investment. CJ: What makes Enterprise different from other commercial cleaning companies? SB: Our slogan says it best: "ere's Clean… and ere's Enterprise Clean." To us, cleaning is about consistency. Anyone can do a great job once. We focus on delivering excep- tional service every single visit. We invest heavily in training, quality inspections, communication and accountability. Our customers know that if some- thing is not right, we'll make it right immediately. CJ: Company culture seems to be a priority. How do you build a team that consistently delivers excep- tional service? SB: Culture starts with leadership. We celebrate wins, recognize great work and create opportuni- ties for advancement. Some of our leaders started as frontline cleaners and have grown into man- agement positions. at says a lot about who we are. We want every employee to know they matter because when our people succeed, our customers succeed. CJ: What leadership philosophy has guided you throughout your career? SB: I've always believed that leadership is about serving others. My job isn't to have all the an- swers. It's to remove obstacles so our team can be successful. I also believe trust is earned every day. Whether it is an employee or a customer, people remember whether you kept your word. If you do the right thing consistently, success usually follows. CJ: What do customers expect today that they didn't expect 10 years ago? SB: Speed and communication. People don't want to wait hours—or days—for a response. ey expect immediate communication, proactive updates and solutions instead of excuses. at's something we've worked very hard to deliver. We want our customers to know they're never wondering whether someone is handling their concerns. CJ: Enterprise serves clients across many different industries. How do you customize your services? SB: Every building has different needs. A med- ical facility is very different from a manufacturing plant, school, law office or financial institution. We spend time learning how each client operates before we build a cleaning program. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every proposal is customized around the client's goals, budget and expectations. CJ: How important is technology to the future of Enterprise? SB: Technology is becoming a major part of our business. From quality inspections and scheduling soware to artificial intelligence and marketing, we're constantly looking for ways to improve com- munication and efficiency. Technology will never replace great people, but it absolutely helps great people perform at an even higher level. CJ: Looking back, what has been the biggest lesson you've learned as a business owner? SB: I've learned that growth isn't just about add- ing customers. It's about building the right team. Early in my career, I thought success was measured by revenue. Today, I believe success is measured by the people around you. If you surround yourself with great people, treat them well and give them the tools to succeed, the business naturally grows. CJ: What excites you most about the future of Enterprise? SB: We're just getting started. We are investing in technology, marketing, leadership development and expanding into new markets. But more importantly, we're building a company that can continue growing for decades. I want Enterprise to be known as the company that customers trust and where employees are proud to work. CJ: If someone asked why they should choose Enterprise over another cleaning company, what would you tell them? SB: I'd tell them that we don't just clean build- ings—we protect their investment. eir building is oen the first impression cus- tomers and employees have of their business. We take that responsibility seriously. We answer the phone. We respond quickly. We inspect our work. We solve problems. At the end of the day, our job is to make our customers look good. CJ: What legacy do you hope Enterprise leaves in Central Massachusetts? SB: I hope people remember Enterprise as a company that made a positive difference. Yes, we cleaned buildings, but more importantly, we created careers, supported families, helped busi- nesses succeed and gave back to the communities that supported us. If 20 years from now people say, 'Enterprise was a company that genuinely cared about its employees, customers and community,' I'll consider that a tremendous success. CJ: What gets you excited to come to work every day? SB: Every day is different and I love that. I'm meeting with a new client one day and the next I'm recognizing an employee who's gone above and beyond. e day aer that, I am brainstorming new ways to improve our company. But what excites me most is watching people grow. Seeing an employee develop into a leader or helping a customer solve a problem—that's incredibly rewarding. "When I started Enterprise, I never dreamed we'd become one of the leading commercial cleaning companies in Central Massachusetts. I just wanted to build a company that treated people the way I'd want to be treated. Everything we have accomplished has grown from that simple idea." n Stephen Buchalter President and CEO 508-890-1000 EnterpriseCleaningCorp.com Serving New England S P O N S O R E D A D V E R T I S E M E N T
