The 70,545-square-foot building at 389 Meadow St. is owned by American-Republican Inc., which previously agreed to sell it to an unidentified developer planning 38 to 40 apartments. The Republican-American occupied the building for more than seven decades before Hearst Connecticut Media acquired the newspaper from the Pape family. The newspaper moved out in July 2025, while the family retained ownership of the property. The building has historic tax credit approvals and sits next to a Metro-North train platform undergoing a $27.7 million upgrade. Photo | CoStar NEW HAVEN A development group is seeking approval to build a four-story, 24-unit apartment building on a 0.41-acre property in New Haven. Plans call for 15 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom apartments, including one income-restricted unit, at 51 Mill River St. The upper three floors would contain apartments, with parking, common space and utilities at ground level. The applicant, 51 Mill River LLC, is controlled by Sonila Bakiu, owner of S&T Deleading and Construction, and Arthur Kullira. Project costs and a construction timeline were not disclosed. ENFIELD Massachusetts-based Solect Energy Develop- ment has signed a multiyear lease for 125,000 square feet in an industrial building at 53 Manning Road in Enfield. The commercial solar and ener- gy-storage contractor will occupy part of the 362,568-square-foot building, which also houses a self-storage facility. About 102,768 square feet of warehouse space remains available. An affiliate of Las Vegas-based Patriot Hold- ings bought the 1967 building for $7.5 million in 2022. The property was originally developed for greeting-card maker Hallmark. MIDDLETOWN A property owner is seeking approval to build a 5,020-square-foot restaurant and a 2,500-square- foot Dutch Point Credit Union branch on neigh- boring Washington Street sites in Middletown. The restaurant has not been identified in official project documents, but an online report said the tenant would be Chick-fil-A. Dutch Point plans to relocate its Court Street branch to 809 Washington St. Attorney Richard Carella filed the applications for 797-809 Washington Street LLC, controlled by Evan C. O'Brien. NEWINGTON Idaho-based wood products manufac- turer Woodgrain has paid $32.7 million for a 622,262-square-foot industrial building and 30 acres of vacant land in Newington. Woodgrain acquired the properties at 301, 311 and 353-407 Alumni Road from an affiliate of New Jersey-based developer and investor Lightstone. Lightstone bought the property for $45 million in 2022. Woodgrain had leased 255,000 square feet in the multi-tenant building and began negotiating the acquisition while seeking to expand its footprint on-site. WESTPORT Darien-based V20 Group has paid $6 million for a former Connecticut Humane Society property in Westport, where the development firm plans to demolish the existing buildings on-site and construct 25 rental apartments and five townhomes. The approved development will include nine one-bedroom, eight two-bedroom and 13 three-bedroom residences. Joseph Feinleib, founder of Coastal Luxury Homes, bought the 1.77-acre property at 455 Post Road East for $3.5 million in July 2025. V20 expects construction to take 16 to 18 months.
