version of a song. Formed in 2009, the band
has released eight studio albums, including its
latest, Higher Up in the Hills, in spring 2025.
The album was dedicated to Luke and Will's
father, David Mallett, who died in December
2024. Through difficult periods and uncertainty,
the fans have remained a steady source of
support. "A couple of times we thought that
we were pretty close to maybe the ship was
going to go down," he said. "But we found a
way to right the ship." Will credits the fans
with giving the band a reason to continue.
"The fans would be so pissed if we didn't
last, we'd be in trouble."
L E F T : Brothers Luke, 43, of Gorham, left,
and Will, 41, of Sebec, both sing and play
acoustic and electric guitar for the band. For
Will, the Mallett name connects the group to
his father and uncle, who once had a Mallett
Brothers band of their own. "It kind of feels
like we're continuing our dad's legacy a
little bit, while also trying to create our own
identities," he said. That balance begins with
the brothers' relationship. Being in a band
together has always felt natural, Luke said, and
their shared goals have helped them work well
together. Will described their personalities as
complementary, with each bringing a different
energy to the relationship. "A little yin and
yang in general," he said.
