Photo | CoStar LAZ-led group acquires Hartford's Stilts Building A partnership led by Hart- ford-based LAZ Investments has acquired downtown Hartford's 23-story Stilts Building for $8.25 million, resolving a foreclosure case that had hung over the office tower since 2022. LAZ Investments, Greenwich Realty Partners and Montre- al-based Olymbec acquired the 420,000-square-foot building at 20 Church St. Wells Fargo filed for foreclo- sure against the previous owner, an affiliate of Shelbourne Global Solutions, alleging missed payments on a $31 million mortgage. The new owners plan targeted upgrades to amenities and tenant spaces aimed at boosting leasing. Occu- pancy at the end of June was 55%, records show. Mohegan plans $25M arena overhaul Casino operator Mohegan plans a $25 million renovation of its 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, with work expected to begin this winter after the Connecticut Sun completes its final WNBA season in the state. The multiphase project will include new seating, upgraded food and beverage offerings, new flooring and concourse lighting, and improvements to entrances and arrival areas. The Sun, which has played at the arena since 2003, was sold this year for $300 million and will relo- cate to Houston next season. Gartner repays $5.6M state job-growth loan Stamford-based research and advisory firm Gartner Inc. repaid $5.6 million to the state in April, closing out a 2019 economic development loan without seeking potential forgiveness tied to job-re- tention and hiring goals. Gartner borrowed $5 million to support an expansion of its Stam- ford headquarters and committed to retaining 1,385 full-time jobs and creating 300 positions in the state by February 2026. It could have qualified for forgiveness of up to the full $5 million principal if it exceeded certain hiring targets. Gartner did not apply for forgive- ness, according to the state Depart- ment of Economic and Community Development. The company didn't respond to requests for comment. New Haven's ConnCAT, ConnCORP announce leadership changes Erik Clemons is stepping down as CEO of New Haven work- force-training nonprofit ConnCAT to State awards $20M for downtown Hartford innovation center T he state is investing $20 million to establish a 100,000-square-foot artificial intelligence and workforce develop- ment center at State House Square in downtown Hartford. The Hartford Innovation Center will feature labs, classrooms and project spaces where workers, students, businesses and entre- preneurs can learn to use AI and other emerging technologies, with a particular focus on the insurance and healthcare sectors. The funding comes through the state's $100 million Innovation Clus- ters Program. Hartford HealthCare, The Hartford, Travelers, Nassau, Google and QuantumCT have also made multiyear financial commit- ments to the project. The Stilts Building at 20 Church St., in Hartford.
