The Town Council in September is expected to consider a storefront grant program that would reimburse up to 50% of eligible build-out costs for new retail and restaurant tenants, funded with nearly $390,000 from the Windsor Center Tax Increment Financing District. Officials are also weighing expanded property tax abatements for office-to-housing conversions and new multifamily developments in targeted growth areas, including Windsor Center and the Day Hill Corporate Area, to help offset rising development costs and encourage investment. Travelers Championship earns spot in PGA TOUR Championship Series The Travelers Championship will join the PGA TOUR's new Champi- onship Series beginning in 2028, securing the Cromwell tournament's place among the circuit's premier events. The series is expected to include about 23 to 24 tournaments each season, including The Players Championship, the four majors and postseason events. The Travelers Championship has been a Signature Event since 2024. This year's tournament drew a $20 million purse, raised more than $5 million for charity and was won by Viktor Hovland. Tournament orga- nizers say the event has generated more than $40 million for more than 1,000 charities since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007. Houston conglomerate buys Farmington contractor that wired prominent CT buildings Houston-based infrastructure company Quanta Services has acquired Farmington-based Phalcon Ltd., parent of McPhee Electric and several other contractors that have completed major projects across Connecticut. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Phalcon, which employs about 4,100 people, owns McPhee Electric, Ravex Systems, Harlan Electric, PowerHawke and J.E. Richards. Its subsidiaries have worked on projects at Hart- ford Hospital, UConn and Bristol Hospital, among others. Quanta said the acquisition expands its presence in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic and strengthens its position in the growing data center market. Contributed Photo Connecticut law firm Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP has opened a new office in Green- wich, expanding its footprint in lower Fairfield County. The office, at 88 Field Point Road, is intended to better serve existing clients while supporting future busi- ness growth in the market, the firm said. Senior Partner Bill Hennessey will lead the office. Carmody has about 90 attorneys and practices in areas including corporate law, real estate, litigation, labor and employment, environ- mental law, trusts and estates, intellectual property and immi- gration. Contributed Photo Electric Boat lands historic $76.6B Navy submarine contract G roton-based Electric Boat has secured U.S. Navy contract awards worth $76.6 billion to build 14 submarines and fund shipyard improvements, marking one of the largest shipbuilding awards in modern history. The package includes $42.1 billion for nine Virginia-class submarines, $29.5 billion for five Columbia-class submarines and $5 billion for ship- yard enhancements. The award provides long-term production certainty through the late 2030s for Electric Boat, its more than 300 Connecticut suppliers and its workforce. The company plans to hire 8,000 workers this year. Parent company General Dynamics recently said Elec- tric Boat remains on track to increase production to two Virginia-class and one Columbia-class submarine annu- ally in the early 2030s as supply chain performance continues to improve.
