wbjournal.com | Book of Lists 2026 | Worcester Business Journal 3 W orcester Business Journal has published its annual Book of Lists for the better part of three decades, but about two years ago, we undertook an ambitious project to expand how we deliver this valuable data online. Those efforts ramped up in 2026 as we worked with businesses throughout the region to feature signifi- cantly more companies and data points in the online portal. We have now cre- ated the go-to source for market intelligence about the Central Massachusetts business community. We call it the WBJ Data Center. While this printed Book of Lists has an enormous amount of information we want you to use throughout the next 12 months until the next issue comes out, the WBJ Data Center features more lists and companies than can fit in a single 84-page print edition. You can use our proprietary information to create your own custom lists, and each business has a detailed profile. Go to WBJournal.com/data. Of course, this print edition includes a number of special features that will make you want to keep it around your office for the next year. The first is the cover, which is my favorite Book of Lists cover in my 11 years as WBJ editor. That bank vault door is from the old Commerce Bank building on Main Street in Downtown Worcester. If you know anything about the history of the Worcester business community, you know that it's David "Duddie" Massad's old bank vault. Special thanks to the folks at Beacon Bank, which acquired Commerce in 2017, for allowing us to take that photo. And a big shout-out to photogra- pher Matthew Wright, whose work never fails to exceed all expectations. This Book of Lists features two new lists: largest wealth management firms on page 14 and largest promotional prod- uct & sign vendors on page 27. Our readers have requested a wealth management firms list for a number of years, and the promotional products list spun out of the research for WBJ's new wedding guide "We Do!" Because the Book of Lists shifts slightly with new and updated lists each year, it doubles as a status report on the Central Massachusetts economy. This year, I used ChatGPT as an extra copyeditor for all of the lists in this edition. Once it finished reviewing all the lists, I prompted it to write a 150-word summary on the region's business community. Here's what it came up with: "Central Massachusetts has quietly become one of New England's most diverse and resilient business regions, combin- ing world-class health care, advanced manufacturing, higher education, and entrepreneurship within an hour of Boston. Worcester serves as the economic hub, anchored by UMass Memorial Health, UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a growing cluster of technology, life sciences, and professional services firms. Surrounding communities such as Marlborough, Milford, Framingham, Westborough, Hudson, and Leominster contribute thriving manufacturing, distribution, financial services, and commercial development sectors. The region is home to a deep bench of middle-market companies, many of them family-owned or employee-owned, alongside global employers like TJX, BJ's Wholesale Club, Waters Corp., Bose, and eClinicalWorks. Small businesses remain a defining strength, sup- ported by active chambers of commerce, incubators, and venture capital investment. Rather than relying on a single dominant industry, Central Massachusetts' economy is built on a broad mix of established institutions and innovative companies, providing stability while fostering long-term growth." I couldn't agree more. - Brad Kane, editor CONTENTS Data is the new currency BANKING & FINANCE ......................................... 9 Banks ........................................................10-11 Credit unions .................................................. 13 Wealth management firms* ........................14-15 Venture capital deals ....................................... 16 SBA lenders .................................................... 17 PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ............................... 19 Law firms ....................................................... 21 Accounting firms ............................................. 22 Insurance agencies ........................................ .23 IT services providers ..................................... ..24 Co-working and makerspaces ......................... 25 Incubators ...................................................... 26 Promotional products & sign vendors* ............. 27 Ad, marketing & communications firms .......28-29 Clean energy companies ................................. 30 Chambers of commerce .................................. 31 REAL ESTATE ................................................... 33 Commercial sales ........................................... 35 Commercial leases .......................................... 36 Architectural firms ........................................... 37 Commercial contractors .............................38-39 HEALTH CARE ................................................... 40 Hospitals ........................................................ 41 Health insurers................................................ 42 Physician groups ............................................. 43 MANUFACTURING............................................. 45 Manufacturers ...........................................46-47 Life sciences & biotech companies .............48-49 Breweries ....................................................... 50 Marijuana businesses ...................................... 51 HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ................................ 52 Tourist attractions ......................................53-54 Hotels ............................................................. 55 Meeting venues .........................................57-59 EDUCATION & NONPROFITS ............................ 60 Colleges and universities ................................. 61 Private high schools ........................................ 62 Vocational-technical high schools .................... 63 Human services nonprofits .............................. 64 Grant-making foundations and nonprofits ......... 65 Corporate foundations ..................................... 66 Arts and culture nonprofits .............................. 67 GENERAL INTEREST ......................................... 68 Highest-paid CEOs .......................................... 69 Highest-paid nonprofit chief executives ............ 70 Highest-paid women executives ....................... 71 Family-owned businesses................................ 72 Minority-owned businesses ............................. 73 Woman-owned businesses .............................. 74 Veteran-owned businesses .............................. 75 Employee-owned companies ........................... 76 Highest-paid state employees .......................... 77 INDEX OF PEOPLE AND COMPANIES ..........78-82 *New list created for first time in 2026.
