As our nation marks 250 years of independence, this milestone invites us to reflect on the ideals that have shaped the American story and continue to guide our shared progress. Liberty, equality, democracy, justice, and pluralism have always been more than aspirations. They are the principles that have inspired generations to build stronger communities and pursue a be•er future. One ideal that resonates deeply with me as the CEO of a community bank is opportunity. For 250 years, America has been a place where people can turn dreams into reality, whether starting a business, buying a home, or creating a be•er life for their families. Opportunity has not and is not always equal or easy, and our rich history includes moments of challenge and uneven progress. Yet the American spirit remains rooted in resilience, innovation, and the belief that with hard work and support, people can move forward. Torrington Savings Bank has been part of America's story for more than 150 years. Founded in 1868 by seventeen local leaders, the bank was built on a clear vision: to provide accessible, trustworthy service that helps people build secure futures and strengthen their communities. A century and a half later, that mission endures. After 30 years here, I'm continually inspired by how our history and America's history intertwine. Through growth, uncertainty, and transformation, we have remained steady, reliable, and commi•ed to helping the communities we serve thrive. As the world evolves, so does the way we bank. Technology has reshaped how people manage their finances, and we embrace these innovations with enthusiasm. Even as we expand digital tools and modern conveniences, we never lose sight of what has always defined us. Personal relationships, trust, and genuine care for the people behind every account and every business remain at the heart of who we are. Our history is long, but our focus is forward. We work every day to meet today's needs while preparing for tomorrow's opportunities. As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, we honor the progress that has brought us to this moment and acknowledge the work still ahead. Our nation's journey has never been linear, but its direction has always been toward greater possibility. That same spirit guides our work. We are proud of our legacy, grateful for the generations who have placed their trust in us and commi•ed to ensuring that opportunity continues to grow for everyone we serve. We were founded on a belief in community and a promise to help people build be•er futures. That promise remains just as strong today. As we look ahead, we remain commi•ed to being a steady partner and trusted resource for the communities we serve. Together, we celebrate our nation's past and look ahead with optimism to all we can achieve in the years to come. Lesa A.
