UConn approves multiyear medical school tuition increase UConn's School of Medicine will raise tuition and fees over the next three academic years, increasing the total annual cost for in-state students to $58,396 by 2028-29, about 10% higher than current rates. The 43-employee company now occupies 13,400 square feet at 55 Church St., where it plans to expand testing capacity and automate parts of its research process. Bexorg says its platform helps evaluate drug candidates for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, using human brain tissue rather than traditional animal models. The company has raised $42.5 million since launching in 2021. Lamont, Eversource clash over proposed electric rate hike Gov. Ned Lamont is criticizing Eversource's proposed electric distribution rate increase, which the utility says would raise the average customer bill about 11% starting in July 2027. Lamont pointed to the company's profits and executive pay, while Eversource said those figures are unrelated to customer rates and accused the governor of politicizing the issue in an election year. University officials cited inflation, rising salary and benefit costs, declining state support, and continued investment in student programs and training technology. UConn's medical school already ranks among the most expensive public medical schools in the country, though officials say its pricing is in line with other Northeast public institutions. Athletic Brewing launches major summer marketing push Connecticut-founded Athletic Brewing is launching its largest summer marketing campaign as it looks to build on growing demand for nonalcoholic beer. The effort includes a national TV commercial, limited-edition patriotic packaging for its Run Wild IPA and a seasonal fruit-flavored nonalcoholic G uida-Seibert Dairy Co. will permanently close its New Britain dairy processing plant this summer, eliminating 205 jobs, according to a federal WARN notice. Layoffs will begin July 20 in phases, with the closure completed by the end of August. Parent company Dairy Farmers of America said milk processed at the Park Street facility will be shifted elsewhere in its network, with no customer disruption. The closure comes as Connecti- cut's dairy industry faces financial pressure from declining milk prices and rising costs. The plant traces its roots to family-owned Guida's Milk, founded in 1932.
