Contributed Photo Construction delays push back Carbone's Hartford return The return of Carbone's Ristorante to Hartford has been pushed back by at least six months as construc- tion delays slow progress at its new downtown location. The upscale Italian restaurant, which closed its South End location in 2020, is working to reopen in an 11,000-square-foot space in the Front Street entertainment district, in a former movie theater. The project is backed by a $1.7 million low-interest loan from the Capital Region Development Authority, which required completion by Jan. 1. Late deliveries of construc- tion materials have delayed the timeline, officials said. Carbone's owners expect to complete construction by June 1. Solar project near Heublein Tower draws local opposition West Hartford-based Lodestar Energy has petitioned the Connecticut Siting Council to build a 4.65-mega- watt solar array on 18.2 acres of a 118-acre former golf course property at 140 Nod Road in Simsbury. The site, once home to Tower Ridge Golf Club, now includes a disc golf course and the Talcott Mountain Collective event venue. Local officials, including First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis, have raised concerns about visibility from Heublein Tower, as well as environ- mental and screening issues. A public hearing is set for April 23; a decision is due by June 2. UConn alums pledge $15M gift to athletics programs The University of Connecticut and the UConn Foundation have received a $15 million commitment from alumni Robert and Stefanie Skinner to support athletics, marking one of the largest private gifts in program history. The multiyear pledge includes a $10 million endowment for men's and women's basketball coaching posi- tions, along with funding for facilities, departmental priorities and other sports programs. Additional support includes $1 million for a proposed golf training facility and $2.5 million for several teams. Officials said the gift aims to strengthen long-term competitive- ness across UConn Athletics. Colt lands $40.8M Army contract for foreign rifle sales West Hartford-based Colt Manufac- turing Co. has been awarded a $40.8 million contract from the U.S. Army to produce M4 and M4A1 carbines for foreign military sales. The rifles are slated for delivery to Bosnia, Iraq, Macedonia and Tunisia, with work expected to be completed by March 2031. The contract does not specify the number of weapons. Colt, part of Czech gunmaker Colt CZ Group, has secured similar contracts in recent years as it expands its role in international military supply.
